26.2 Thoughts: Marathon Mind

What goes through your Mind during a Marathon?

Mine sounds a little something like this:

Mile 0: "Breathe, smile, remember to hydrate each mile, and is your Garmin ready? I think I need to pee again. It's almost time to start. This is it. You've trained and you are ready. Just have fun and do what you love to do."

Mile 1: "Don't go out too fast. Run your own pace. Don't worry about the other runners around. This is your own race."

Mile 2: "Hold Steady."

Mile 3: "I love running, I love running, I love running."

Mile 4: "One more mile holding steady and then it's Go Fricken Time. You ready? I'm ready."

Mile 5: It's time to get on your Goal Pace. Pick it up Brooke. Get on target.

Mile 6: "Hold it. Hold your pace. Get ready to take a gel."

Mile 7: "First gel down, that wasn't so bad. Wish I could brush my teeth."

Mile 8: "Check your pace. You can do this. I can do this!"

Mile 9: "Breathe and Relax. Run relaxed."

Mile 10: "Breathe Brooke."

Mile 11: "Almost Half way. Check your pace."

Mile 12: "Relax your shoulders."

Mile 13: "Get ready to take your second gel."

Mile 14: "Take second gel. Shake it off. Nutrition is on, legs feeling good. Keep going strong."

Mile 15: "Look at how far you have come already. I love this."

Mile 16: "Check your pace. Hold it Brooke!!!"

Mile 17:"Keep breathing. Thank you legs."

Mile 18: "Relax your body and wiggle your toes."

Mile 19: "How are your feeling? Check your Time. Where am I with my goal?"

Mile 20: "I know I have one more gel to take. So nasty, but I can do it. I need the energy, the fuel for my body. My body can do this."

Mile 21: "Take your last gel. Time to Turn up the heat!! Time to break it down. Only 5 miles to go."

Mile 22: "Only 4 miles left. Look at all the miles behind you already. Smile. Breathe. Take a deep breath and go."

Mile 23: "Pick it up Brooke, come on you can do this. Come on legs......... relax shoulders. wiggle toes."

Mile 24: "You got this. Only two miles left, what's my pace? Two miles... Almost there.....almost there."

Mile 25: "Go Brooke. Breathe. Push it. Push your body. Come on legs. You've gotta pick it up..."

Mile 26: "This is it, give it everything you got. How much further? This last bit always feels like forever. Who cares, go...."

Mile .2: "There's the Finish Line. Finally! Smile, Run, go Brooke!!!
I did it. I love Running. Another Marathon done. I did it! I really want to brush my teeth."

And this is the voice talking to me, Given nothing goes wrong
(the something goes wrong voice sounds a Whole lot different!!!)

With Kona Marathon only 2 days away, my heart is pumping with Excitement. And let's hear it for the New Course!
A new opportunity to prove to myself what I am capable of. I can do this!

Good Luck to all the Runners running this Weekend! Have fun and remember why you are there. Enjoy every mile (the good, the challenging, the first and the last.) You can do this!

I'd Love to hear a little of what your 26.2 mind has to say to you. If you don't run the Marathon distance, but do run, I still want to hear your what goes through your running mind.
